Anthony Caro (1924–2013, born New Malden, Surrey) was an English sculptor celebrated for his abstract constructions in welded and bolted steel. After working as an assistant to Henry Moore, he pioneered from 1960 a new approach of placing brightly painted, self-supporting sculpture directly on the floor without a plinth, exerting lasting influence on modern British sculpture.
