Cecily Brown (born 1969, London) is a British painter known for her energetic, gestural canvases that hover between abstraction and figuration. Her densely worked compositions draw on art history, eroticism and the tradition of painting itself, dissolving bodies and landscapes into swirling fields of colour. Based in New York, she is among the most prominent contemporary painters of her generation.
