Christian Boltanski (1944–2021, born Paris) was a French sculptor, photographer and conceptual artist regarded as one of France's leading postwar figures. Working chiefly through installation, he explored memory, absence and mortality using photographs, second-hand clothing, lights and archival material, as in his monumental Personnes and the ongoing heartbeat archive Les Archives du Cœur.
