Christian Marclay (b. 1955, San Rafael, California) is a Swiss-American visual artist and composer internationally acclaimed for his pioneering work at the intersection of sound and visual art. Over four decades, Marclay has transformed music and audio culture into physical form through performance, sculpture, collage, video, and installation, often using fragments of popular culture and everyday materials. He is recognized as a trailblazer in turntablism, manipulating vinyl records and album covers to create playful, hybrid objects and sound collages. Marclay’s groundbreaking video works, such as the 24-hour montage The Clock (2010)—which earned him the Golden Lion at the 54th Venice Biennale—have cemented his status as a leading figure in contemporary art. His work has been exhibited globally at institutions including the Centre Pompidou, Tate Modern, Whitney Museum of American Art, and Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
