Christopher Wool (born 1955, Chicago) is an American painter regarded as one of the most influential of his generation. He is best known for his stark, stenciled text paintings of black letters on white grounds, as well as large abstract canvases combining silkscreen, spray paint, and gestural marks that interrogate the process of painting itself.
