Damien Hirst

Damien Hirst (b. 1965, Bristol, England) is a British conceptual artist and leading figure of the Young British Artists (YBAs) who revolutionized the art scene in the 1990s. Known for his provocative exploration of themes like life, death, and the human condition, Hirst gained international acclaim with works such as The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living (1991), featuring a tiger shark preserved in formaldehyde. His iconic series, including Spot Paintings, Spin Paintings, and Natural History, blend art and science while challenging traditional notions of beauty and mortality. A Turner Prize winner in 1995, Hirst has exhibited globally, including retrospectives at Tate Modern and groundbreaking shows like Beautiful Inside My Head Forever at Sotheby’s. Today, he continues to innovate through his Newport Street Gallery in London and remains one of the most influential and commercially successful artists of his generation.
