Ed Ruscha (born 1937, Omaha, Nebraska) is an American artist associated with Pop and Conceptual art and closely identified with Los Angeles. He is known for paintings, prints, and photographic books that feature isolated words and phrases, gas stations, and the city's landscape, using deadpan typography to explore American vernacular language and culture.
