Eddie Martinez
Eddie Martinez (b. 1977, Groton Naval Base, Connecticut) is a Brooklyn-based artist celebrated for his dynamic, large-scale paintings that merge abstraction and figuration. Known for his bold use of color, gestural brushwork, and incorporation of unconventional materials like spray paint, enamel, and found objects, Martinez creates works that are both raw and energetic. His practice draws on influences ranging from street art and popular culture to Abstract Expressionism and the CoBrA movement, often featuring recurring motifs such as bug-eyed figures, skulls, and eclectic headgear. Martinez's work has been exhibited internationally at institutions including the Bronx Museum of the Arts, the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, and the Yuz Museum in Shanghai. His pieces are held in prominent collections such as the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C., the Saatchi Collection in London, and Colección Jumex in Mexico City.
