Francis Picabia (1879–1953, Paris) was a French painter, poet, and one of the central figures of the Dada movement. Restlessly experimental, he moved through Impressionism, Cubism, and abstraction before developing his provocative machine-inspired 'mechanomorphic' works and, later, his figurative 'transparencies,' influencing the course of twentieth-century avant-garde art.
