Georges Braque (1882–1963) was a French painter, collagist, and sculptor who, together with Pablo Picasso, pioneered Cubism in the years before the First World War. He is known for his fragmented still lifes, his development of papier collé (pasted paper) collage, and his subtle, harmonious explorations of form and space.
