Ghada Amer

Ghada Amer (born 1963, Cairo) is an Egyptian-born, New York-based artist working across embroidery, painting, sculpture, and ceramics. She is best known for her embroidered canvases, in which stitched and trailing thread depicts female figures, using a traditionally domestic craft to explore femininity, sexuality, and cross-cultural identity. She received the UNESCO Prize at the 1999 Venice Biennale.
