Jean Arp (1886–1966), born in Strasbourg, was a French-German sculptor, painter and poet, and a co-founder of the Dada movement in Zurich. He is best known for his biomorphic abstract sculptures and reliefs, whose smooth, organic forms suggest natural growth. Working across Dada, Surrealism and abstraction, he became one of the most influential European modernists.
