Kazuo Shiraga (1924–2008, Amagasaki, Japan) was a Japanese painter and a leading member of the postwar Gutai Art Association. He is best known for his visceral abstract paintings created by swinging from a suspended rope and spreading oil paint across the canvas with his bare feet, a radically physical process that anticipated performance and action painting.
