Kenny Scharf
Kenny Scharf (b. 1958, Los Angeles) is a celebrated painter and installation artist known for his vibrant, surreal works that merge fine art with pop culture. A key figure in the 1980s East Village art scene alongside contemporaries like Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring, Scharf draws inspiration from comic books, cartoons, and mid-century Americana to create hallucinatory worlds filled with anthropomorphic forms, floating donuts, and neon hues. A self-described "pop surrealist," his work reflects the duality of modern life—playful yet subversive—blending elements of Pop Art, Abstract Expressionism, and Street Art. Scharf has exhibited globally at institutions such as the Whitney Museum, the Hammer Museum, and the Salvador Dalí Museum, and continues to live and work in Los Angeles.
