Manuel Carbonell

Manuel Carbonell (1918-2011) was a celebrated Cuban sculptor renowned for his monumental works and mastery of modernist forms. His sculptures, characterized by smooth, flowing lines and abstracted human and animal forms, reflect a deep connection to his cultural heritage and personal experiences. After studying at the prestigious Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes "San Alejandro" in Havana, Carbonell moved to New York City, where he further developed his distinctive style. His work, exploring themes of human strength, beauty, and resilience, has been commissioned and exhibited globally, with notable installations including "The Pillar of History" on Miami's Brickell Avenue Bridge. Carbonell's legacy is particularly visible in Miami's Brickell Key, where several of his sculptures are prominently displayed, including "El Centinela Del Rio" at Tequesta Point; and at the Carbonell Condominium, named in his honor, features his sculpture "Lovers" at its entrance. Carbonell's enduring impact on modern sculpture is celebrated for its ability to convey powerful emotions through elegant simplicity and refined craftsmanship.
