Otto Wols (1913–1951, born Berlin) was a German painter and photographer, born Alfred Otto Wolfgang Schulze and known simply as Wols, who worked mainly in France. Largely self-taught, he is regarded as a pioneer of Art Informel and a leading exponent of Tachisme, producing intensely worked, gestural paintings and drawings shaped by Surrealist automatism.
