Paul Klee (1879–1940) was a Swiss-German painter whose highly individual style drew on Expressionism, Cubism, and Surrealism. A teacher at the Bauhaus, he is celebrated for his inventive use of color, line, and abstracted, often whimsical imagery, as well as for his influential theoretical writings on modern art.
