Rafa Macarrón
Rafa Macarrón (b. 1981, Madrid, Spain) is a self-taught Spanish artist celebrated for his vibrant, dreamlike paintings that blend figuration with abstract elements. His works often feature idiosyncratic humanoid characters with exaggerated anatomical features, set against colorful, textured backgrounds that evoke both isolation and crowded scenes. Trained as a physiotherapist, Macarrón leverages his understanding of anatomy to create playful distortions, drawing inspiration from artists like Jean Dubuffet, Joan Miró, and Pablo Picasso, as well as comic art and street culture. His artistic journey began at age 25, and he has since gained international recognition, exhibiting at prominent venues such as CAC Málaga and La Nave Salinas Foundation in Ibiza. Macarrón's work is characterized by its spontaneity and experimentation with diverse materials, including acrylics, gouaches, and aerosols.
