Salvador Dalí (1904–1989) was a Spanish artist and one of the leading figures of Surrealism. Born in Figueres, Catalonia, he is best known for his meticulously rendered, dreamlike paintings of the 1930s, above all The Persistence of Memory with its melting clocks, as well as for his flamboyant public persona.
