Tsuguharu Foujita (1886–1968) was a Japanese-French painter and printmaker who became a leading figure of the École de Paris in Montparnasse during the 1920s. Combining Japanese ink techniques with Western oil painting, he is best known for his portraits, self-portraits, images of cats, and nudes rendered on his signature luminous, milky-white grounds.
