Wangechi Mutu (born 1972, Nairobi) is a Kenyan-American artist known for her collages, sculptures, paintings and films centred on the female body. Working across media and materials, including magazine imagery, Kenyan soil and found objects, she creates hybrid figures that explore gender, race, colonial history and environmental themes. She divides her time between studios in Nairobi and Brooklyn.
