Yoshitomo Nara (born 1959, Hirosaki, Japan) is a Japanese painter and sculptor associated with the country's Neo-Pop generation. He is best known for his deceptively simple figurative works depicting wide-eyed children and animals whose innocent appearance carries an undercurrent of defiance and unease, developed across painting, drawing, sculpture, and installation.
