Yves Tanguy (1900–1955) was a French-American painter and a leading figure of the Surrealist movement. Largely self-taught, he is known for meticulously rendered dreamscapes populated by biomorphic, abstract forms set against vast, otherworldly horizons. Born in Paris, he emigrated to the United States in 1939 and became one of Surrealism's most distinctive imaginative voices.
