Zeng Fanzhi (born 1964, Wuhan) is a Chinese contemporary painter known for his psychologically charged, Expressionist portraits. He came to prominence with his Mask series, begun in 1994, in which figures conceal their faces behind blank, leering masks to explore alienation and superficiality in modern China. His work has achieved record prices at auction.
