This Jean Michel Basquiat drawing is a major work from the most coveted period of the artist, 1981-82. It consists of an explosion of colors filling up the entire frame using various mediums such as oil sticks, markers and crayons. The work is a tribute to Basquiat’s celebrated heroes, famous black athletes and more specifically in this work, baseball players. It figures the most sought after among Basquiat collectors' iconic black masks topped by the yellow crown. The work displays all of Basquiat's typical vocabulary, words, symbols, face and crown, mixed together to create a piece of extraordinary vitality only found in his best early works.
